The detective reopens an unsolved case when a skeleton is discovered beneath the burned-out remains of a Whitley Bay nightclub. She suspects the bones belong to a notorious criminal who was once a friend of her father and has been missing for more than 20 years. When another murder occurs nearby, she investigates the possibility that a local crime family may be involved with both deaths, while the original owners of the club also have secrets to hide. Brenda Blethyn stars in an adaptation of Ann Cleeves' 2017 Vera Stanhope novel The Seagull.
