S17 E7 • Burying The Past
Gina struggles to cope with Phil's death and refuses Carol's offer to prescribe her sleeping pills, determined to deal with things on her own. However, with the funeral scheduled for the next day, an emotional service that sees the whole of Aidensfield turning out to say their farewells to the much-loved bobby, it seems the grieving landlady is expecting too much of herself. Over at the station, Don is racked with guilt over the shooting of his colleague, convinced he should have taken the bullet. Despite George's reassurances, the bobby believes the villagers will blame him for the death of a close friend and decides to pack his bags - until the sergeant makes him a proposition. Meanwhile, the officers investigate the suspected suicide of a local teacher and Carol fails to report an elderly motorist involved in a hit-and-run with a cyclist, which proves particularly embarrassing when the victim turns out to be the hospital's new doctor. Leon Ockenden joins the cast.
